Teachers Who Love Teaching, Teach Children to Love Learning

When we surveyed our 62 teachers in May, we asked how many would be returning for the fall. 59 of them said that they were. This percentage of satisfied, invested and connected teachers is in stark contrast with the national trends. Find out why PacPrep teachers report such high levels of job satisfaction.

When we surveyed our 62 teachers in May, we asked how many would be returning for the fall. 59 of them said that they were. This percentage of satisfied, invested and connected teachers is in stark contrast with the national trends. According to a study by the RAND Corporation’s American Teacher Panel, “one in four teachers were considering leaving their job by the end of the 2021 school year — more than in a typical pre-pandemic year and at a higher rate than employed adults nationally. Also, teachers were more likely to report experiencing frequent job-related stress and symptoms of depression than the general population.”

What is indisputable is the level of pressure put on our teachers in recent years, causing many to explore other avenues to continue doing what they love. Just like families who find Pacific Preparatory because they want an out-of-the-box solution for their children, passionate, experienced teachers are finding us too — and sticking around.

In fact, what Jesse envisioned for PacPrep was a school founded by, and run by teachers. His time with Teach for America gave him first-hand experience with the challenges facing traditional classroom teachers, and he has remained committed to providing an opportunity for teachers and students alike to reach their full potential without restraints. Six of the nine members of PacPrep’s leadership team started their professional journeys in the classroom.

What is it about the PacPrep experience that keeps our teachers coming back? According to their end-of-year surveys, the following are the top reasons:

The 1:1 setting.

Many of them, like our students, have never had the opportunity to be so connected with one another, and to understand them as people first and learners second.

The ability to continue with their students across multiple years.

Teachers enjoy seeing them grow and wasting no time diving into the learning because they start the year already knowing their students’ distinct strengths and challenges.

Teachers are treated as trusted, autonomous professionals.

They highlight the consistent and helpful support from the two dedicated leadership team members (Curriculum Specialist and Faculty Manager/Instructional Coach), as well as being allowed flexibility and creativity in their lesson planning.

Paid prep time and unlimited access to materials.

Teachers are allowed whatever physical and digital materials they need for each student, and adequate time to thoughtfully plan every single lesson.

The following reviews were recently posted on Glassdoor from our teachers:

“Pacific Preparatory truly supports their teachers and provides them with resources to teach each student at a top notch level. Teachers are matched with students that highlight the strengths of the teacher and encourage and support the learning of the student.”

“After 17 years of teaching in a traditional classroom, I am thrilled to be teaching with Pacific Preparatory. The 1-1 teaching is simply amazing! I get the opportunity to really know my students at a deeper level and can plan my teaching accordingly to really meet their needs and interests. The management team is incredible! I feel extremely supported and valued. If I ever have a question I always get a response very quickly! Additionally, I continue to be amazed at the variety of resources available and am so grateful that all resources and documents are extremely easy to navigate.”

“If I could give this company more than 5 stars, I would. They are one of the most supportive, caring, and knowledgeable companies to work for. If there is ANYTHING I need help with, or want to run ideas by, there is always someone to listen. I have yet to find a company that treats you like family and sets you up for success with your students. They personally match you with families and I can honestly say the families have been amazing as well. I cannot rave enough about how truly authentic and wonderful working for the Pac Prep/Tutor Corps family has been.”

“Pacific Preparatory is a masterminded educational organization with a heart and passion for giving students the best in one on one, individualized instruction. Instructors, students, and their families are highly supported by a professional administrative team. Hours are flexible and teachers are given respectful ownership of their own lesson planning! This is a dream career for an educator striving to have a work/life balance week.”

Perhaps the most telling review came from one of our graduating seniors this past June. At her graduation ceremony, surrounded by family and friends, members of our leadership team, and her teachers, the student said, “I think I had a lifelong grudge against teachers. But this past year, I started letting my teachers in, and I let them help me.” Tears — and pride, were in abundance.
