A fully customized curriculum looks different for every student, of course! What is consistent across our student experience though, is a thoughtful, engaging mix of physical and digital materials, curated specifically for each learner’s needs. A student’s schedule is also crafted strategically and collaboratively with every family to optimize the student’s receptivity to learning. Check out some examples of some current students’ individualized curriculum.
Our individualized lessons allow for interactive instruction in every subject area. Students create projects that allow them to explore new academic information, add their own creative elements, and practice fine motor skills.
With our customized approach to curriculum, students are able to explore and synthesize course content in the manner that best fits their strengths and encourages their growth. This student loves to create illustrations, which her teacher harnesses to dive into historical inquiries. The work sample on the top left is a visual representation of the 5 historical themes discussed in their study of Ancient Egypt including historically accurate hieroglyphic text.
In our 1:1 learning environment, teachers at Pacific Preparatory are able to select the exact resources that will best facilitate each student's academic growth. Here a student is using hands-on materials to practice new math concepts, engaging in an interactive learning experience.
PacPrep teachers are experts at designing lesson plans that are student-centered and thoughtfully paced. Students engage in making inferences, investigative activities, and reflections to round out their content knowledge and critical thinking.
Dissecting an owl pellet is beneficial for students as it provides a hands-on opportunity to learn about the food chain, predator-prey interactions, and the anatomy and physiology of animals. It also encourages the development of observation skills and critical thinking as they try to piece together what prey animal was eaten based on bone structure.
In our 1:1 model, teachers serve as instructional guides, mentors, executive functioning coaches, and a listening ear. Social emotional learning is integrated throughout our academic classes to create a warm, welcoming, and safe learning environment.
Social Emotional Learning is incorporated into every single session. This happens organically through relationship-based teaching and also intentionally through specific affirmations. In this picture, the student is working with their planner to record an affirmation for himself. Positive feedback is essential to the learning experience, especially as students celebrate themselves along with their academic experience.
Our customized approach to curriculum allows all students to develop their skills and knowledge to the fullest potential. Providing each individual student with material and tasks that are appropriately challenging can help them deepen their understanding of concepts, develop critical thinking skills, maintain interest and engagement, and prepare them for future challenges they may face academically or professionally.
Science labs provide hands-on experiences that enhance a student's understanding of anatomical structures, body systems, and scientific concepts such as dissection techniques, comparative anatomy, and physiology. It also helps to develop observational and problem-solving skills as well as appreciation for the complexity of life.
The PacPrep team regularly mails a variety of physical materials to each of our students. Using the document camera for this tangram activity, the teacher can see her student's face, as well as what he's doing with his hands. Learning is three-dimensional even in the virtual experience.
Our teachers have a wide variety of vetted, high-quality digital materials at their fingertips. This second grade biology lesson focuses on sound waves. Here the student is engaging in a self-directed activity that highlights his understanding of the day's learning. Bonus: this counts as an assessment, too!
Our students explore the world through embarking on interactive, virtual field trips. Our favorite quote from a 6th grader, “Whoa! This feels like the real deal!”
Games are designed with specific student interests and learning goals in mind. We love capitalizing on critical thinking!
