Why One-On-One Online Learning Might Be a Good Fit for Your Child

2020 has proven to be an unprecedented year when it comes to our children's education. While there is much debate to be had about the efficacy of online versus in-person learning, we know one thing for sure: the one-on-one model of instruction allows for a truly engaging learning experience that can be tapered to meet your child and family’s needs, especially when instruction occurs online.

There are many benefits of online learning when it is facilitated by a private instructor who is attuned to your child’s needs and can adjust to them as needed. From speaking with our students and teachers, we’ve found that there are five main benefits to one-on-one online learning.

Self-Paced Learning

Traditional schooling structures pace their academics over 18 years. In many instances, children fall behind because of the way they interact with learning material. Online schooling, especially when facilitated by a one-on-one instructor, offers children self-paced learning opportunities. In turn, this allows them to take breaks, process materials at their own pace, and ask for help when needed. It's challenging to incorporate self-paced learning in all large classroom situations. Online learning institutions with small class sizes are an optimal environment for self-pacing.

Personalized, Adaptable Education

In addition to allowing for self-paced learning, one-on-one online learning grants students better learning difference support, accessibility, and long-term mental health support. When instruction can adapt to each student’s unique needs that day, students feel better supported and are able to build confidence. This is because one-on-one online learning allows the schedule, lesson content, and delivery method to flex depending on each child’s needs. Learning should support all bodies and minds -- and a rigid classroom doesn’t always facilitate that.

Improved Tech Skills

Want to prep your child for college and the "real world"? There's no better way than by immersing them in online learning. Over a typical year, students constantly expose themselves to evolving technology and learn increasingly complex ways to navigate and communicate within a digital landscape. Eventually, they will not only learn to adapt to changing technology but will become more fluent in it than their parents could have ever imagined.

Perfect Time Management Skills

Online schooling means no halls to run from class to class. No bells. No teachers reminding students about their schedules. It sounds like a relief, but it also means students are essentially on their own when it comes to managing their time. Change can take a while for students who have grown used to having their time managed by others. But as students get into the habit of managing their own time, they prepare themselves for adulthood. Many of our one-on-one instructors integrate lessons around time management and study skills directly into their online classes to best help students learn to navigate the digital world.

Schedule Work-Arounds

Learning involves experience, which is why so many students get involved in extracurriculars. Another way to support experience is through travel and event attendance. Unfortunately, life on the road -- or even a well-rounded extracurricular schedule -- can hinder in-person education on a large-scale. One-on-one online learning schedules can be built around a student and family’s personal lives. Teachers can meet with students on a schedule that works for each student. So, if a student has morning ballet or wants to study abroad, online learning can support those aspirations.
