Get to Know Dash
It all started when…
I wanted more help in math and English. I started at PacPrep while also going to another school. I took a couple of classes for two school years. Then, transitioned to full time here for 6th grade. Now, I’m in 7th.
tell me what comes to mind when you think of PacPrep.
Online school, it’s flexible, and you can travel!
so have there been times when you’ve traveled and also done school?
Yes! Sometimes I take school with me and do classes in my hotel room. Other times I’m on the plane during class times so we schedule make ups. Super cool.
what’s class like? it there a set program?
We start with classwork. With Amber, for example, we work on problem sets.
It’s not a set program, no. It’s more than that because I actually like what I’m doing! Everything is more clear because it’s 1:1. Way better than a classroom with 30 kids.
what comes to mind as something you’ve really enjoyed the last couple of years here?
I like Latin a lot as a whole. I find it really fun to learn a language. Some people say it's a dead language, no one talks about it, but it can be the root for Spanish, English, Italian, can also help with ELA in general.
What sorts of supplies do you have?
I have my pencil cup, and then the bookshelf back there! I have all my books right there though, get out supplies as normal like any other school. For science, I get mailed kits and everything I need for experiments.
Tell me about your schedule
It feels nicer than normal school because I can start later and get more sleep. Also, there are breaks between classes, so I can pause and get refreshed. Even if I don't do much or they are just 15 minutes, it's so nice to have a break.
what do you like to do on your breaks?
I like to get a snack or play a game. What’s really nice is when I sit outside on our patio, play with my dog. It just depends on what I’m in the mood for.
Talk to me about seeing your family while you're LEARNING from home.
Everyone is around but not in each other's spaces. We all see each other at times, but overall I'm in class in my room. Mom is reading in the library, and dad's in his office.
What would you say you recommend about PacPrep?
Two biggest reasons:
1) I get to learn a lot more. It’s a lot more engaging and interactive! Teachers can help you understand, you don't have to interrupt the class to get help.
2) Flexibility. It’s very flexible. Even if you're sick you can do school, which some people might not like, but also tons of flexibility in schedule, and ability to travel.
What are other activities that you do with friends?
I play Squash with other kids! I also connect with students in the book club and in my entrepreneurship group class. I’m also still in contact with friends from my old school.
