Virtual Learning is Here to Stay!

This past year has stretched and challenged many caregivers, students, and teachers to approach learning differently. Although here at PacPrep, we have been doing online learning for many years, the idea of virtual learning was a new concept for many. We have found that a significant number of students that previously only experienced traditional, in-person instruction, thrived in a virtual learning environment. Families are now challenging the status quo and determining if virtual or hybrid models will help their child thrive academically.

Benefits of 1:1 Online Learning

Online instruction reduces the geographical barriers to finding the best instructor for each student. Not only are students able to access a larger pool of qualified teachers, students are also provided an opportunity to utilize technology in a way that will help prepare them for the future.

Emerging evidence indicates that online learning is just as effective as in-person when employing our methods of real-time feedback via document camera and the use of digital and physical materials.

Now we have a great opportunity to ask our children about their experience with virtual learning. Some great questions to ask are:

  • What worked well for you during virtual learning?

  • Were there any challenges? If so, what were they? How did you work through them?

  • How have your thoughts on school shifted this past year?

  • Are there any new skills that you learned this past year?

  • What was your favorite part of virtual learning?

By taking the time to have this conversation with your child you are helping them to process their experiences of the past year and connect with their own resiliency. This will also help to identify key positive takeaways and helpful strategies that they can use as they move forward in their learning.
