PacPrep Students Meet the Authors in Spring Book Club!

Spring book clubs at PacPrep included exclusive visits from each of the authors, where participants prepared questions and engaged in rich, inspiring conversations.

For the last session of each spring book club, our five groups welcomed the authors of each book for lively, intimate conversations. Our authors were based around the world, giving students a glimpse into life in other places. These visits were so engaging, with authors sharing unique insights into the why behind the respective story. Each author spoke about their personal stories of inspiration, which captivated the students. Explaining how characters were developed, the research required to make the storyline authentic, and how the publishing process works, each group allowed for specific questions from participants. The questions ranged from insightful to hilarious–

“Which character was your favorite to write?” - 7th grade student

to “Can I work for you? I can give you ideas for your next books!” - 3rd grade student

❖    Matilda Mae Wears Confidence by Susan Howard
Texas, United States

❖    Get Off My Lawn! by Anna Ceguerra
Sydney, Australia

❖    Avina Heart: Super Code by Kay Dietsch
Vancouver, Canada

❖    Erift’s Journey: Secrets of the Sealed Forest by J.T. Tenera
Ohio, United States

❖    Grady Whill and the Templeton Codex by Carole P. Roman
New York, United States

We received incredible feedback from these visits. A family of a fourth grader said, “All three girls loved their book clubs and being part of a group with other students and not just one-on-one with teachers. They each loved having the author visit at the end of the session. They wished it was longer than just five weeks!”

J.T. Tenera, author of “Secrets of the Sealed Forest” shared, “I was absolutely honored to be a part of your book club and have the chance to talk to both of you and the students!” Each author shared how organic the event felt both in terms of having a smaller audience (5-10 participants) as well as the flow of activities and questions from book club attendees.

Interested in joining our book clubs this fall? Groups will begin in October, with registration opening up in September.
In the meantime, we have some extra signed copies of each of the spring book club books! Reach out to me, Erika Sneath, Academic Dean, to receive a complimentary copy. (erika@pacificpreparatory.com) Happy reading!
